    Chemical Compatibility

    When transferring different fluids, the tubing should exhibit certain chemical properties, referred to as chemical compatibility. For example: low adsorption, good temperature resistance, not easily aged, no swelling, corrosion resistance, and low precipitation.

    The chemical corrosion resistance decreases with increasing temperature. Chemical reagents that have no effect on the tube at room temperature may affect the tubing as the temperature increases.

    Testing Methods

    When the compatibility of a certain liquid with the tubing is uncertain, an immersion test is required: Take a section of sample tube, record its weight, diameter, and length parameters, immerse the sample tube in a sealed container containing the liquid, soak for at least 48 hours, remove the sample tube, rinse with clean water, dry, re-measure its weight, diameter, and length, observe the changes, and check whether the tubing has softened or become brittle. If there are changes, it indicates that the tubing is incompatible with the liquid. If there are no changes after the test, it indicates that the tubing is compatible with the liquid.

    Pressure Resistance

    The application of peristaltic pumps is affected by the pressure resistance performance of the tubing. If the system pressure reaches or exceeds the limit pressure of the tubing, the tubing will expand, leading to excessive wear or rupture of the tubing. Factors affecting the pressure resistance of the tubing include: material, diameter-to-wall thickness ratio, etc.

    The operating temperature range of the tubing is a factor that users need to consider. Different materials have different temperature tolerances.

    Dimensions

    The dimensions of the tubing directly affect the flow rate. Consider the inner diameter and wall thickness of the applicable tubing, and match the optimal tubing size or tube number range. The inner diameter of the tubing determines the flow rate; the wall thickness determines the resilience of the tubing and also has a great impact on the service life of the tubing.

    Tubing may need to pass relevant certifications for certain applications. Such as the United States Pharmacopeia standard EP, the United States Food and Drug Administration standard FDA, the United States Department of Agriculture standard USDA, and the National Sanitation Foundation standard NSF.

    The flexibility, elasticity, and lifespan of different tubings vary, resulting in different abilities to withstand repeated squeezing and friction from rollers. Different tube types, materials, pump heads, and operating speeds have different lifespans. The service life is called flexible life in pump systems. In specific applications, the characteristics of the pump are very consistent. Choosing long-life, thick-walled tubing, using a high-flow pump, and operating at a lower speed can achieve a longer tubing service life.
